I would be curios to know how long it has really been this color and how did someone happen to find out.

Usually its the skin opposed to the tongue, but.
It could be the mouthwash she is using which has a strong ingredient in it - one that you should only use for a short time to combate aggressive bacteria.
One third of all bacteria in the mouth are on the tongue - that's the white film on the tongue but if you are a smoker or are eating food or a drink with strong colour - i-e- Fanta the colouring can attach to the bacteria and colour the tongue.
You can buy a tongue scrub in any Chemist to clean the bacteria off the tongue - but if the WHOLE tongue is orange - she should go to a dentist and get it checked.
have your friend rinse with some warm salt water, half a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water, for a week, if it's still there, have a brush biopsy done, just in case.
