I have an abscessed tooth?

I went to the dentist yesterday and he said i have an absceessed tooth..the tooth he was working on is in the front and i think he drilled a hole to let the puss come out. I am taking antibiotics now and my gum is no longer swollen and i feel MUCH better. However, HE DIDNT put any anesthesia when he was drilling it and sticking needles in my tooth!! I was SCARED AS HELL. He said I would not feel pain because the tooth is dead but I was still scared. BUT he was right..I didnt feel anything except when he drilled the hole - i felt sort of sore. He told me to go back on Friday to get it checked again..he said it will also take longer on my next visit.I asked if it is going to hurt and he said no. I am still nervous tho =( DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MY DENTIST IS GOING TO DO NEXT TIME?? please let me know!! thank u so much.

Answers:
Sounds like you're getting a root canal. Root canals can be long procedures because the doctor is having to take small files and clean the inside of your tooth out with them. He probably didn't do it the first time because the tooth was too infected. So he drained it and put you on an antibiotic to get some of the infection down.

If the root canal has already been completed, the next step is to have a post and crown (did he not explain this to you??) A post is made of metal and will be cemented on the inside of the tooth where the root canal was done. After that, a crown(or cap) will have to be made on top of the post to fully restore your tooth. This procedure can also take a long time, 2 hours approximately. After the crown is cemented on, you will be good as new :o)

what does a dental hygiene do? during the 2yrs. of school is it really challenging?please help me.?

I'm guessing he going to check for more infection and to see if the meds are working. I don't know why he didn't just yank it out and be done with it so you don't have to suffer through it anymore. Good Luck hun!

United Kingdom dentist question only?

Root Canal for sure, not kidding. He will try to save the tooth.

What can you do about mouth sores?

Root Canal procedure: unhealthy tooth, drilling, filing with endofile, rubber filling and crown.Root canals are the long passages full of soft tissue deep within the dentin of a tooth, adjoined the pulp chamber. In dentistry, a pulpectomy is an endodontic treatment to cure an infection of the root canal; informally a root canal. A root canal, coupled with internal tooth bleaching, is also used to fix teeth that have blackened due to infiltration of decayed soft tissue into the dentin in the teeth, most often seen in frontal incisors that have been injured through a sudden impact.
