Pain after dental work?

I had a deep filling put in a tooth about 6 weeks ago, but over the weekend I got really bad toothache in it again. I'm 250 miles away from my dentist so I had to go to a different one today as an emergency. He did an x-ray and said the original filling was too close to the nerve so he did a root canal and put a temporary medicated filling in the tooth. He also did a filling in the tooth directly behind it which had a large cavity he thought might be contributing to the pain (I'm in the middle of getting a LOT of fillings with my own dentist but I'm home for 6 weeks holiday).

The pain is a lot better now than it was over the weekend, but I'm really quite tender in the quadrant that was worked on. I know it's just from the drilling etc and because the cavity was pretty deep, but how long will it take for that pain to go away? I've been in pain constantly now for the past 4 or 5 days!

I am getting a upper front partial 4 teeth. I'm single and worried kissing is going to be a problem. Does anyo

Answers:
That can be quite normal for a tooth to be tender after having a root canal. It can even take upto 2 weeks for it to settle down (but everyone is different). but if the pain is really bad go & see ur dentist coz there could be another reason for the pain for example a crack. did ur dentist tell u not to chew on the tooth? well for now DON'T chew on the tooth until ur dentist tells u it ok.
Hope u feel better soon!

What brand of gum is best for your teeth?

One Vicodin, half hour later over the counter Motrin. Works like a charm.

Wisdom Teeth: Surgery or Pulled?

I had one molar filled in about 12 years ago. It did twinge for quite a while, and I wasn't happy doing any serious chewing on it for at least 6 months.

Can you get some painkillers for it?

My baby has a blue swollen area on his gums, could he be teething?

It can take up to 2 weeks for it to go away, but the best thing for it is sucking an ice cube (if its bearable!) or lots of Bonjela!! Also if you are a smoker, try and smoke as little as possible

I'm thinking of getting Invisalign braces but I might be moving to another state soon?

I have been a dental nurse for 11 years and in that time have seen many different types of advice given.
The one that seems to work the best is a combination of ibuprofen and paracetamol. Alternate between them every 2 hours. I would suggest ibuprofen first and two hours after Paracetamol and continue in that routine.

If the tooth is tender to bite on then I would suggest that you have an infection. In which case I would recommend a course of antibiotics amoxilcyllin or metronidizol.

Hope this has helped
