Dentists?

I had a cavatie a few years ago and the dentist filled the cavatie plus other teeth on the top of the teeth with porcelan, saying that my teeth were too pretty for the black stuff (what is the black stuff, btw?).
Is this normal to use porcelan?

Wisdom teeth?

Answers:
There are new techniques that use porcelain as a filling material, but most likely the material he used was composite. It is a strong plastic material that comes in many shades to match natural tooth surface. The "black stuff" is called an amalgam and is made up of several metals- silver, copper, zinc and mercury, and will tarnish just like silver to give you the black appearance.

Not usually

How much are dental crowns in the midwest after insurance coverage of 60%?

Yes, I have had it done often.

Do whiting strips really work?

I would think not.

Restorative process for teeth is not an easy task. To do something just because seems, a bit odd. The "blackstuff" is still a fixative but not as "pretty" because it can be darkening on some people.

I have had my teeth pulled on top and a new plate put in. click and read further?

Anyone else have veneers?

They have a regular filling, which where I live is about $100. Porcelain fillings are usually $750. The regular filling can be matched to your other teeth color, so it is not noticeable. It was not absolutely necessary for this. If these are your front teeth, then it was for overall appearance. I think you should have been educated as to what your options were though. Definitley a difference in price, porcelain last longer though.
Some insurances don't pay for porcelain at all, because it is mostly for appearance.
Any doctor you have should explain all of your options to you. You are his boss because you are paying his wages for the time he spends with you. Find a dentist you like, because it will be alot easier to let him work on your teeth.
Ask lots of questions, and if you dis/agree with the answers, tell them why. These are your patient rights. There is a federal written document about this. I'm not sure where you would find it on the internet though.Probably through a government site. Try the state board of nursing for your state.
Been to some really bad dentists and have since found one that I absolutely love. He's gentle, and does whatever he needs to to make you feel comfortable.
Whether it is a doctor or dentist, they are being paid a wage to do a job, and it is your right that your wishes be followed. There is some discretion allowed for narcotics and stuff. You are paying for a service, he is the one who spent ten years in college learning how to treat you, he should be able to explain what he is doing and why. Most people would prefer you did not realize this exists, because they have the perfect job, they get to be late to your appointment, they get to charge you what they want, all to be told what you need to be doing, he should be explaining your options and letting you choose. Seems to me you are being taken for a ride!
