Answers:
Get a second or even third opinion. It's cheaper if you don't need them and gives you peace of mind if you do.

I dont know
you don't, unless you have a mirror
trust him, the ones who are crooked are few
get a second opinion. But if you don't trust your dentist that much, you really need to find another dentist. There should be some level of trust.
if your teeth are straight and he drives a porsche, then he's lying
Dentists seem to be recommending braces ALOT in the last 10 years or so.It is all part of the "we can be perfect" push, that is ultimately driven by $$$$.
You could always get a 2nd opinion and a 3rd if needed.
Good luck :)
See another dentist and get a second opinion
if your teeth are crooked and you don't like how they look, if you have a hard time talking or eating, or if you have big gaps or your teeth are sticking out- your teeth can be improved by braces- nobody has to have them- it's a matter of 'do you want them so your teeth look better." most orthodontists think everybody could be improved by braces, so you're the one who has to decide.
keep in mind the braces are mosthly used to improve appearance and that is why most insurance do not cover braces,
if your teeth are straight and you don't have any problem with the appearance or alignment then you should be fine, but for me i would get a second opinion, even your regular dentist might be able to tell you if you need to see and orthodontist, if you have any doubts seek a third opinion from a regular dentist.
I wouldn't think he'd have any reason to. Orthodontists do braces, not dentists, so it's not like he'd make money off of it.
look in the mirror.
and you be the judge of that.
You would know yourself if you need braces. Most people don't "need" braces but want them. Or are you asking if your problem could be corrected by something other than braces?
if your teeth are crooked you do need braces or he might put them on for future prefrences.
