Answers:
Any trained orhtodontist can do this procedure, but depenting on your current bite it may not be an option if your teeth are overlapping too much. Also you will pay quite a bit more for bracket on the back or your teeth.

As for sending you literature, most orthodontist prefer referals from general dentist so ask your dentist to refer you.

What is it like having braces?

Sorry, but not just any trained orthodontist can do braces on the back of the teeth, or Lingual braces.

The techniques and mechanics are all different than regular braces.

They are also a lot more expensive, and as mentioned, it doesn't work for everyone

I recently went to the dentist and found that there were a few tiny but deep holes in my teeth..?

As a hygienist I wouldn't recommend these type of braces unless you have immaculate oral hygiene. The hardest area to keep clean is the tongue side of the bottom teeth. Patients have a hard enough time keeping the regular type of braces clean, let alone if the brackets are placed where all the plaque and tartar form. I can only imagine what the tissue would look like, since you cant see what is forming back there!
Traditional braces are not that bad and many adults are having them done, so there isn't any stigma attached. Also available is Invisalign if you are a candidate, these are clear plastic retainer type appliances that are changed every couple weeks. IF you are concerned with the appearance these may be an option.
Anytime you go with a 'newer' and 'better' technique you risk long term results because the techniques just haven't been around long enough to know. Think back to when retainers were not used and patients teeth went back to where they were before!
I would set up an appointment with a recommended orthodontist in your area and see what he or she recommends in your case. A lot of orthodontist offer free consults, so you could go to several and see what each has to say.
