I've never had them, but my little brother got them when he was 12 and didn't end up getting them off until he was 15. The orthodontist wanted him to leave them on another year, but he was tired of the pain involved. The braces themselves didn't hurt except about a day after each time they were tightened, but he got really bad canker sores from them and they cut up the insides of his mouth really bad. What made it worse was the fact that he was in karate and every time someone would hit his face, he ended up with more cuts that turned into more canker sores. He hated having them, but his teeth look really nice now.

You can start orthodontic treatment as early as 6 or 7 years old. Usually as soon as the 6year molars come thru. From then on you can have treatment. Even many older adults are now getting braces!

I did not get braces until I was about 25 years of age, and trust me they are harder on adults than children, because as we age our teeth get more set and harder to make
