Question:
i just got braces july 16 and go in augest 16 to get them tighteneed and i am scared that it will hurt and i need some advice because i am afriad that it will hurt

Answers:
Okay well the way braces work is you have these little things glued to your teeth. On each one they put an elastic, and they thread a wire through all of the ones on the top teeth and another wire through all of the ones on the bottom teeth.

When you get an adjustment, what they're doing is replacing the elastics and the wires, so that the wires will be tight again - that's how braces work - the tension in the wire slowly pulls your teeth to where they should be.

The procedure won't hurt at all and will only take 5 or 10 minutes. Later in the day your teeth will ache a bit because of the tension, but a Tylenol will take care of this. They'll continue to ache a bit for another 2 to 5 days.

And then you're in the clear until the next appointment in another month or two! :)

Don't worry. I an 14 and I got my braces tightened for the first time a few months ago. I happen to be afraid of pain more so than most people, but when I got them tightened it wasn't painful. They will most likely take out the wire and then get a new one that is a little bit shorter and then thread it through the brackets. Your mouth will feel a bit sore and you will most likely want to drink something cold but it really isn't that bad!
the wire , its heat activated, that means when it reaches your body temperature, it tightens itself, i was scared to death too, i thougth they cut the wire, made it shorter and actually pulled the teeth closer together, looool. Dont worry, you wont feel anything when you leave the office, you will feel it later that day, its not a big deal. everytime they change the wire, it has a diff intensity .

I got my braces off last month, i promise you, you shouldnt be scared, its no big deal, they cant even hurt you if they tried
it doesn't hurt so much when they do it, but it aches for a couple days afterwards and the first day it is hard to chew. but it is worth it, i use to have bad teeth and look how straight and pretty they are now. i can't hardly remember the pain at all.
dont worry it does not hurt to bad. read other answers.
