what do the numbers mean next to soft or medium on toothbrushes?

Question:
there are numbers near the soft or medium on toothbrushes. I was wondering what those numbers mean or what they are for.

Answers:
It's the number of bristles on the brush - not how hard they are. The larger the number, the bigger the toothbrush. Aim for a smaller number, so you can get the toothbrush into all the spaces in your mouth. The larger the bristle part of the toothbrush is, the harder it is to clean your teeth. Always get a soft or medium brush - the hard bristles aren't as effective at getting between teeth and the gumline.

Other Answers:
it is the diffrent stages on the soft or medium tooth brushes. For example, a 50 would be harder than a 39.
exactly what they said above...........it determines how soft or how hard the bristles are
