Why ask about a dentists refrences online?

Question: I am curious why someone would base whether or not they go to a certain dentist or not, by what someone online would say about this guy. What if he/she is a great dentist and you happen to get a response from the one person on here that knows them and had a bad experience at their office? Why dont you call the better business office in your town and see if they have any complaints? Or request a consult with him so you can get to know him? Dont you think that your opinion of him might differ from that of other people who have seen him? I am really curious to know why a strangers opinion of a dentist would make you want to or not want to go to them?

I've noticed that too, as in:
"Anybody know about Dr. Make S. Miles of Fargo, ND?"

I mean, anyone can answer that question whether they've heard of Dr. Miles or not.

This can be a good resource, especially with the two or three actual dentists who take their time to answer here. But why would a person ask about a specific dentist in a specific town when the odds are against anyone seeing the question who actually KNOWS?? Better Business Bureau, local dental society, your neighbors or friends - all ways to find a good dentist without getting wacky and inaccurate responses.
