stained teeth?

i am about to start a chlorhexidine mouth wash and am concerned about the resulting stains..will professional bleaching remove those stains?

Answers:
Chlorhexidine CAN cause staining, but the stain is the bacteria the rinse has killed. The only way it will stay on your teeth is if you haven't brushed away all the dead bacteria and plaque on your teeth. As long as you practice meticulous oral hygiene you shouldn't develop any staining, and if you do then it can be easily removed by your dental hygienist at your next appointment. It will not cause any permanent staining, so professional whitening wont be needed to remove the stain. The only time it possibly could cause 'permanent' staining is if you have white fillings on your front teeth and there is some leakage around the margins. But this too can be fixed, with new fillings. This doesn't happen that often and if it does, you probably needed a new filling anyways.
By the way, if you are using this rinse after brushing, be sure to rinse your mouth out well before using it, because ingredients in the toothpaste and the rinse will cancel out each other!

U should put the liquid on with q-tips and yes bleaching will remove the stains. because the stain is from the outside not the inside of the tooth you should be able to have the stains removed as you would say .coffee stains.

The staining caused by CHX can be removed by a cleaning from a hygienist, so I would not pay to have my teeth bleached. In most patients that I've seen with staining from CHX, the stains are on the back of their teeth, so the stains are not noticable. This happens because most people don't brush the back surfaces of their teeth as well as the front of the teeth. Just be diligent in your brushing AND FLOSSING to keep the stains minimal.
