After 2 weeks of Root canel, my teeth still hurts badly, even worse?

Question:
Hi, I read your answers on Yahoo board and I hope you can help me with some advise. I had a rool canel 2 weeks ago and until now the pain still there, even worse. I wonder if this is normal or the procedure fails? I took the strongest pain killer the dentist gave me, but it still does not help at all. I wonder is it because I had the blood tissues removed 3 weeks before she was available to fill the MATERIAL into the blank so it's kind of too late? I start doubting she did not do a good job. I heard someone recommend to see a Root Canel specialist because a dentist might not be well experienced in root canel? I tried everything, ice pack, clove oil but the pain is so severe I feel like a brain damage in my head now. I had 2 root canels this year and now the dentist has not put a crown on my tooth yet because she used up my Insurance allowance. So she made an appoinment to see me next year for the crown. During this time, will my tooth be in danger without the crown? Thanks A LOT

Answers:
Most dentists are ethical, so let's assume your dentist did a good job with the root canal (aka RCT). It is normal to feel discomfort after a rct. Sometimes it is necessary to remove the nerve at one appointment, then fill the canals a later appointment (which is fits your case).

If a dentist does not fill comfortable with doing rcts (ie. if it looks more complicated on x-ray), then a referral to a specialist is likely and normal. Some dentists will all rcts, others will choose to do only certain teeth, and some may not do any rcts at all. It's up to him/her.

If, after 3-4 weeks, and you still have no improvement, go back to your dentist for a re-eval of the area. Occasionally, a root canal needs to be redone if the first one did not "hold up."

I would have the crowns done ASAP. Letting your the root canaled teeth to be without crowns increases likelihood of fracture and failure of the root canal (if you have a temporary filling, there would be an insufficient seal from the bacteria in your oral cavity).

Good luck!
When one of my teeth needed root canal treatment my dentist told me rather than mess about with the root canal treatment just take the tooth out, so i let him and have had no trouble from that since, only from my wisdom teeth and they really do hurt.
