Way more secure than any other currently available. It's costly, but state of the art.
very. alot better than having to take them in and out. if you can afford it i would recommend it.
THESE IMPLANT SUPPORTED DENTURES ARE MUCH MORE SLIP AND DISLODGE RESISTANT THAN TRADITIONAL DENTURES. A SMALL STERILE SCREW IS PLACED INTO THE BONE EITHER FOR THE UPPER OR LOWER JAW. A HEALING CAP IS PLACED OVER THIS. AT A LATER POINT IN TIME ANOTHER RETAING SOCKET-SHAPED TIP IS ATTACHED TO THIS. FINALLY DENTURES ARE MADE TO FIT THESE SPECIAL IMPLANTS.
ONCE IN PLACE, AFTER COMPLETE HEALING HAS OCCURRED, THERE IS NO MECHANICAL DIFFERENCE FROM THE BONE AND THE IMPLANT. THEY ARE IN ESSENCE AS ONE. SINCE THE PRINCIPLE OF SUCTION AND/OR VACUUM IS NO LONGER REQUIRED MANY FREQUENT INHERENT PROBLEMS ARE THUS ELIMINATED.
FOR EXAMPLE: 1) NO LONGER WORRY ABOUT DENTURES STAYING IN WHILE CHEWING FOOD, 2) BETTER ABILITY TO ENJOY THE TASTE OF FOOD -- NOT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT THE HARD PLASTIC COVERING THE HARD PALATE WHICH CONTAINS MANY TASTE BUDS, 3)NOT HAVING TO BE CONCERNED WITH ONES SPEECH BEING AFFECTED BY A LOOSE LOWER DENTURE. AND THERE ARE MANY OTHERS.
Implant supported dentures are very secure; however, there are many different types. As a general rule, as you increase the number of implants that support it, the more secure it becomes. Also, if more implants are placed, it is possible to actually have your denture fixed in place and not have to remove it at night. This type of denture is called a "Fixed-Detachable Prosthesis" , the reason that it is still considered detachable, is because your dentist can still remove it if he/she wants to. The conventional "Implant Overdenture" is retained by at least 2 implants with a snap-type of abutment (post) on top of it. These are fairly secure (much more secure than a conventional denture). Sometimes a bar is made that attaches the implants and the denture snaps onto the bar, this is called a "Bar-Retained Overdenture". The minimum number of implants that you need to have a fixed prosthesis on the Bottom Jaw is 4. The more implants that you have, the closer you get to feeling like natural teeth (increased biting forces). Basically, there are so many options out there that I could write novels on the different treatment planning scenarios and which ones are more secure than others. The best option is to consult with your dentist and discuss what your expectations are and he/she can direct you accordingly based on your desires and finances! Hope that this proves helpful!
