Is it ok to leave roots in jaw after an extraction?

Question:
Had a very large lower back tooth removed 4 weeks ago. I have dry socket and am having this treated. However an x-ray shows they have left a piece of broken root (which has been root filled). My dentist tells me that this will cause no problems, but I am worried as I do not seem to be healing very well. What to you think?

Answers:
two separate issues.

the dry socket has nothing to do with the tip of the root being left- that happened because the clot didn't get firm before something caused it to come out such as rinsing , spitting, smoking , drinking thru a straw or carbonation from a cola maybe-

the little root tip being left was to not traumatize you unneccessarily- in other words- to go after that little curved piece of root would cause you far more trauma than leaving it. bone will grow around it and it can stay like that forever.

Other Answers:
actually speaking root should be removed from jaw.as it can be source of infection. But there are cases where root while removing breaks and cant be removed so we leave it in patient.like1]when size of root is very small
2]if root pice is near nerve and removin can cause problem
3]to remove tht root piece which is small minor suregry can be required so to avoid it it is left
ideally it shud be removed..i think consult oral surgeon get ur Xray done and he will decide..no one guide u accurately without checking Xray.
