how bad do braces really hurt?
Question:
Answers:
On the scale of tooth pain from 1 (very little discomfort) to 10 (so painful you can't sleep), I would say that braces range from 1 to 5. Even at their very worst, it isn't that bad.

When I first got mine in they hurt pretty bad for the first few days, then I got used to them. Everytime they tighten them be prepared for them to hurt for a few days again.
Probably won't hurt as bad as the mouth injuries.
I would say out of a scale of 10, with 10 going to the ER, that braces hurt about 5 or 6 for about the first 4 days after tightening then they go away until the next time.
WELL IIT DOESNT HURT MUCH,,DON BE SCARED ,,INITILLAY U MAY HAVE PROBLEM WHEN HE IS FIXING THE BAND BUT OTHERIWIS ENO PROBS,,U MAY HAVE CANGE IN YOUR VOICE ,,DIFFICULTY IN SPEAKING AND EATIN,,,BUT WID TIME IT WILL BE FINE...
I have heard different things from differnt ages & they all say something different. So it is really how you tollerate pain. I have them on now, I am 26yrs old & the only thing that really bothers me is when they tighten them or when I forget to wear my bands once or twice! But it only hurts me for like a day or 2. So good luck & remember to keep pain reliever around at all times just in case!! Oh & just keep in mind how nice your smile will be when you are done, it is a major motivator for me!!
I had braces for 2 1/2 years...they hurt at first, but not too bad. I had to go every month to get the wire adjusted - and normally my teeth felt sore for the first few days after each adjustment. I'd just eat softer foods the first few days afterwards - I wouldn't even want to drink a milkshake thru a straw because of the pressure on my teeth, and you don't feel like chewing really, at least I didn't, but then they felt fine and I'd eat normally til the next time I went in.
I was scared at first to get them, but they really weren't that bad--my teeth are straight now and when I got them off I actually missed them! Although, it felt like my teeth were going to fall out especially when they took the impression for my retainers right after I got them off. It is important to clean your teeth really good. Oh, and use the wax if any bracket makes the inside of your cheek raw..it'll help. Hope this helps.
they dont hurt while they put them on but like an hour later it hurts because its really sensitive like the slightest touch makes them hurt...for me it lasted a lil less than a week and then i got used to them...when u get them tightened the first few times it hurts a lil bit but after a while it only hurts for like an hour not even
oh and ur mouth gets really dry when they put them on and u cant stop spitting..or at least i couldnt
i just got braces a month ago, so i can help.
actually, my braces didn't hurt. it was just kinda weird having metal on your teeth, but it didn't hurt.
and i'm not tough lol.
but yea.. some hurt, but i didn't!!
Haven't got them yet.
the first few days, your mouth would probaly be really sore and like just uncomfortable.
if youre worried about like skateboarding injuries effecting your braces, i think theres this special kind of mouth guard designed for braces wearers. just search online of ask your ortho. (:
When you first get them, they will be sore for about as short as a few days or as long as a week. So don't plan on eating anything you'll have to chew. And don't be foolish and do what I did when I first had braces: Eat fried chicken or steak! I'm sure your mouth will not be in the mood for something like that. Stick to eating comfortable foods such as mashed potatoes, pudding, apple sauce etc. Don't worry, in about a couple of weeks after you have your braces, you'll be able to eat normally again. I've had my braces on for a year.
