Can a cusp fracture cause bacterial infection?
Question:
Answers:
If you've had Root canal therapy - you wont experience any pain from the nerve of the tooth, as it's not there any more. However the broken tooth can act as a source of infection. Bacteria, food and plaque can pack in and an abscess can result.
Your tongue is supposed to be textured at the back. If it's furry - it's most likely plaque which you can brush off with your toothbrush.
Penicillin can disturb the balance of natural bacteria in your body - if your digestive system is still upset - it's likely that your tongue is affected (it's all linked - just the first step of digestion)
Get the tooth out if your dentist has recommended it! You'll be fine and be glad to be rid of it!
In the meantime:-
Rinse out regularly with warm, salt mouthwash (it's better for drawing out infection than any bought mouthwash)
Garlic capsules are a natural anti-biotic - so won't do any harm.
Keep the tooth as clean as possible with your toothbrush so that no food gets lodged in the area.
Use a fluoride toothpaste (over 1000ppm if you don't have fluoridated water)
Use a pro-biotic yogurt if your still having digestive problems (and see your doctor if this has been an ongoing problem)
Only your dentist can tell if you have an infection, but yes if you don't you most likely will get one if it left untreated. Food particles will trap inside the crack and cause decay or it can become abcessed where it will become quite painful. Better to get treatment sooner versus later. Did you inquire about a crown and/or root canal to save the tooth? It may not be restorable, but I would ask. If you're not happy with your dentist's treatment options, you can always take your x-ray and get a second opinion. Just don't wait on it. It will only get worse. In regards to your tongue, ask your dentist about it, only he will be able to tell.
Hope this helps and good luck.
dont think that just because you dont have pain that nothing is wrong. because next thing you know you'll be waking up in the middle of the night, screaming and running to the emergency room. Then, guess what, ya loose the tooth. Hopefully the tooth is still restorable. The fact that you dont have pain indicates that the nerve may be dead. In that case, you would need a root canal, post and a crown to keep that tooth going for you. Its worth it. I figure, if you chew on it, ya need it. Get that tooth checked out before it makes you miserable!
