Yes it is common. Your teeth will still be moving because you got your braces off and there is nothing keeping your teeth from moving now. At night you put your retainer in and it moves your teeth back into place where they were. Your mouth will get use to it in a few weeks and you won't have the soreness. Just keep using your retainers at night or your teeth will move back where they want and it will have been pointless to have gotten braces because you teeth won't be straight anymore.
