Tooth under the crown.?

Question:
I had a crown made for my tooth #9 and it's on the temporary cement for like 5 weeks. Lately this tooth started to hirt, it had a root canal done. It doesn;t hirt like a normal tooth hirts. I feel pain only when I touch it with my finger or with my tounge, but it is bothering, Any suggestions why?

Answers:
Probably needs the root canal re-examined due to re-infection.
Why is it on temporary cement for 5 weeks - suggests to me your dentist was half-expecting trouble with it.
Could also be root fracture or post perforation.
Need x-ray for diagnosis!
The failure rate of root canals is NOT 20% unless you have a very bad dentist.About 3-5% will fail. Worse for back teeth than front.

Other Answers:
My wife had the same problem.

She had a root canal and the tooth bothered her for a month or so. The dentist told her to be patient that there was nothing wrong with the tooth.

It finally quit hurting her and now isn't the least bit sensitive to heat, cold or pressure..

It is possible that the crown is too high. If you are hitting too hard on it, over time it will cause the tooth to be pressure sensitve. Have the dentist check you bite 1st. But be aware that 20% of all rootcanals are not successful.
