Alright a week after a bad extraction I am still in bad shape!!!!!?

Question:
I had a tooth pulled last Thursday. It needed stitches so I had to go back Tuesday to get the stitches out. Since this time I have had to go back to the dentist everyday to have the extraction site packed with gauze and clove oil and it just happened to be the very back molar. I am suffering with chronic pain in my jaw to the point that I can't even hardly even open my mouth. I am on antibiotics so it is not infected and I am taking VicodinES and Motrin for the pain but it still persists. Oh and the dentist says that it is not a dry socket either so why does my jawbone and ear hurt so bad? Anyone have any suggestions because at this point I need some.

Answers:
Oh, you poor thing!

Yes, I'd get a second opinion. And quick too!

You might have an abcess somewhere in your jaw. Sometimes it's within the bone and even the dentist can't see it.

You say he just packed it with gauze and clove oil. Abcesses need to be drained and thoroughly cleaned out.

They can do nasty things like the pus seeping into your bloodstream and causing blood poisoning. Hopefully, you don't have a fever. If you do, a bad infection of the area may have already started.

Dentists are able to take x-rays of the jaw. But then, soft tissue and blood or pus doesn't show up on x-rays.
You might have what is called Dry Socket. It happens some times after an extraction. Pain pills do not help to much. If your dentist who did the extraction is not helping, you might want to find a new dentist. Or make your current dentist totally aware that what he/she is doing is not helping at all.
Good Luck
