anyone know a good way to help swelling after wisdom teeth have been taken out?

Question:
i got my wisdom teeth out yesterday and was wondering if anyone knew of any good ways to help with the swelling.

Answers:
Ice the first 24 hours, and take antibiotics prescribed to you (your DDS should have)
After the first 48 hours; dampen a regular size tea bag (one for each side of your head, then place in ice water for two mins, then place at the very back of your mouth on both sides.
It may taste horrible, but the tannic acid in the tea bags reduces swelling and speeds healing. You only have to have them in place ten to fifteen minutes.
Ibuprofens will relieve the pain you have without making you feel drugged out.
If you still hurt after the first four days; go back to the DDS.
Most importantly, DO NOT make a vacuum in your mouth to drink, spit...
Keep your mouth CLEAN; just be careful rinsing.
DO NOT drink carbonated drinks the first four days; it'll float your clots out and infect the bone (DRY SOCKET IS PAINFUL)

GOOD LUCK
PS: I worked for a DDS and that (tea bag) was his favorite home remedy
Ice (*correct*)
and anti-inflammatory drugs like Aspirin. (*wrong! see below!*)

You can minimize the swelling in two ways: with ice packs applied to your face near the surgery for the first two days, and then by keeping your head elevated at night. Use an extra pillow. A raised head keeps fluids from accumulating in the head area.

But - don't overdo the ice! (see link below).

The other comments on this question saying that you should not use aspirin are correct!! I had completely forgotten that aspirin is a no-no with extractions because it can cause bleeding. Stick to Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, or Naproxin!
ice, any kind of cold pack, ibuprofen. your dentist should have also prescribed something.
