Why does it take soooo long to get a new set of dentures?

Hi! I have been in dentistry for over 25 years and I can appreciate how frustrated you are. But listen. He is trying his very best to get a denture that fits and doesn't send you around the bend and want to throw them in the trash. Dentures are hard and uncomfortable. They sit on top of soft tissue and have to conform to your mouth for your to want to wear them and not feel upset. Everyone mouth is different. The size, shape and arch of each person is very different and that either makes or breaks a good denture fit. The upper denture needs the suction from the palate to stay in place and if it extends to far you will gag. If it is too short it will come loose when you eat, speak or laugh. The lower denture has to saddle the ridge and has less to keep it in place without dental adhesive. Please only use Fixodent as I have had patients have horrible reactions to Polygrip. Please be patient and understand this is a match just for you. And if it is not done right you will be miserable. If you have any other questions, please ask, I will help you in any way that I can. Marie.
You don't really give a whole lot of information. Are these going to be your first dentures, did you just have your teeth extracted or are you replacing an existing set of dentures?
Any way you slice it, the more time the dentist takes in fitting your dentures the better the fit and function will be. Time spent now will mean less time we will be needed in the future.
Comfort and function are what it is all about.
What has the dentist been doing during these steps? I know it seems each dental practice does things slightly different.
Good luck
Sandy
