Ok to use whitening products on 9 year old?

Question:
would it be ok for me to use anything on my sons teeth like crest white strips? the box says 12 and he is 9. his teeth is yellowing and i dont know why, he brushes flosses drinks mostly milk, any ideas on why they are not white?

Answers:
Many liquids and food products, such as soda, chocolate and other sugary products are known to make teeth yellow. Although your son would probably be careful with the white strips, I would not take the chance because he may accidentally swallow it. I suggest that you continue to have him brush and floss his teeth daily (maybe with Crest Whitening Toothpaste) and consume dairy products. However, do ask your son's dentist for their opinion. He may be able to help you and will tell you whether his teeth are a normal color for a child of 9 years.
if the box says 12, then that probably means NO
but you can ask his dentist to make sure
I used them on my 9 year old, but only did it once a day instead of twice. She was very sensitive to them. Sometimes they just come in that color. Have him use a whitening toothpaste and the Whitestrips won't hurt him. They just say 12 and older because they are afraid the younger ones will swallow the stuff.
the foods he eats are probably bad...get him to eat vegetables they will coat the teeth and help protect them...try a whitening tooth past the whitening strips or paint ont hings will most likely be too strong for his teeth (and he wont like the taste).also when he drinks other things use a straw that way they avoid the teeth...good luck!
i agree wiht kristy. if the box says 12, then you should check with his dentist before you use them. better to be safe than sorry.
No. it is not appropiate to put teeth whitning materials on a nine year old child. The chemicals are too strong for a child's still growing teeth.
Oh and the yellow teeth could come from high fructose corn syrup , try brushing letting him brush his teeth 3-5 times a day.
Whitning tooth paste dosen't work for me (don't know why)Also the whitning strips don't work for me. I'd rather have ZOOM whitning.
I'd ask a dentist about why his teeth arent the right color..but as for the whitening, it could be harmful. Whitening products make my teeth VERY sensitive, it could end up putting your son in a lot of pain. You might consider switching to a gentle whitening toothpaste, its not as abbrassive.
i beleive the reason the box says 12 is because the enamel on their teeth is still hardening because they dont just come out of your gums all chalked full of enamel (if that makes any sense) i would consult your dentist before you try anything like that. with my little sister we used a baking soda based toothpaste and that helped trmendously. then on the same hand i have one tooth that is extremely yellow and the doctor told me that whille my tooth was forming i must have spiked a temperature and it discolored my tooth. so something like that you just cant help until you are much older and can get a professional whittening done.
I had kinda yellow teeth and I used Spry Toothpaste. It has natural Anti-Plaque tartar control and contains Xylitol and Aloe. It makes your teeth whiter, plus is is sugar-free and contains no flouride. It comes in a cool mint flavor. My aunt got it at a health food store in her area. It is said to whiten teeth up to 3 shades! I'd say it really works, it worked for me! Good luck!
NO IT IS NOT OK! Teeth whiteners attack the enamel on teeth that protect teeth. Some teeth with stronger enamels are naturally more yellow. Attacking this enamel can make teeth vulnerable to cavities and sensitive to hot/cold foods. Lots of people who use teeth whiteners complain of sensitivity. If adults want to make that choice to take that risk, then that is their choice. But now that you know the risks to your son, I hope that you make the right choice to protect him.
No, it says for 12 and up. I'm sure his teeth are fine...ask his dentist if you are concerned.
i am not sure but the white strips may or may not harm his enamel since it is still hardening, try some baking soda based toothpaste and that should do that trick. Also u should go talk 2 a dentist 2 know for sure that his teeth r normal.
NO, I am a dental hygienist
