Scared of the dentist?
Question:
Answers:
The biggest accomplishment I have is getting over my fear of the dentist. I feared the dentist like the plague and never went for 14 years!
A saying from my mum is "your teeth are your best investment" and I believe that to be true.
Your teeth generally are the first thing people notice (even more so if you have terrible teeth) and something you'll need for the rest of your life - now is your chance to look at keeping them and looking after them.
Honestly - what's the worse that can happen? you feel a little prick in your mouth and the you go numb - you get paper cuts that sting much worse.
I manage a small team and two team members were also as scared to go as i used to be - my suggestion - take the day off work to have it done and enjoy your time off. You'll feel much better for having it done and really think why you worried so much about such a small inconvenience.
You can do it! :) Hope this helped
before i had a root canal they opened up the filling, gave me ibuprofen and antibiotics and made me come back in a few days
so take ibuprofen
How about considering hypnotherapy? This is apperently quite effective. Or maybe explore the option of having the tooth out under a general anaesthetic so you will be completely asleep for the procedure.
Or it may be possible to have the dentist let you have gas and air so that you are more relaxed about the whole thing. I know it is a horrible thought to have a tooth out but it sounds like you definitely need it done. Good luck.
I'm a Dental Nurse, and I hate being in the dentist' chair - how bad is that ?? Even if you were to have your tooth extracted, you would still need to have an injection to numb the area. Really, it only stings for a little bit. Going ahead with a root canal is the best way to go for your "Gap" but you will need at least 3-4 visits to the chair. Not all will require injections. Seems strange that after 2 lots of AB's you are still in pain. ring up and ask your Dentist for pain killers, over the counter ones are not strong enough for infections in the tooth. Good Luck.
You have to have it done. Plain and simple. A needle hurts for what, a whole half a second. You can do it. If you don't, you will have worse teeth problems down the road, and then you will wish you did!!!!
do not be Afraid dentist can help you
Did he not give you pain meds too with your antibiotics? if the tooth isnt a noticeable one (like in the back of you mouth) I would just have it pulled...You are going to have to have shots with a root canal too, so you might as well get it out if you can do that sooner.
Hi Alex,
Going to the dentist isn't much fun, but its something we all have to do. Having a needle in your mouth can be a little scary but with some trust from you and patients from the dentist you can get through it. Let the dentist know you are nervous and they will do their best to make it as comfortble as possible. They will probably put a blob of numbing gel on your gum or wherever they are injecting first so you don't feel the needle and then you will feel a sting. Depending on where it is injecteded it could be a sting you hardly feel or a sting which is more of a sharp pinch that lasts 10 seconds. Either way all you need to do is close your eyes, keep your head still and trust the dentist to do his job.
Good luck
