Will dentist tell your parents if u smoke?

Question:
ok.. i have heard that they can or cannot tell your parents.just to make shure, im going to the dentist soon, but will your mom wait outside of the room when your getting your teeth done? or come and see...and if doctors ask you.. i would say i would like to keep it confidential please..? do you think that would work?

Answers:
It's none of anybody's business if you smoke. If you are under 18 though and your folks are footing the bill then you have no rights. How would your dentist know you smoke? Ask him/her to keep your personal life choices as a patient/doctor confidentail discussion.
No, they won't tell them.
You're under 18 as far as your parents go HIPAA doesn't apply to you. Your parents can't tell you smoke...gee...they don't deserve to know I guess.
no he will tell
no they will tell a doctor told on me when i told them to do that
they wont tell. just tell your mom you want to do it alone.
and then quit smoking. it is such a bad and hard habit to break, the longer you do it, the harder it gets.
They should not.
I think that should work, whatever you say to your doctor/dentist stays with your doctor/dentist.

Good Luck.
No but I will
If your undeage they will probably tell
doctor-patient confidentiality
at most places
the doctors want u to b honest with them and if u tell them that u want it kept confidential then they shuld unless its life threating to u then they are obligated by law to say s0mething
Your parents already know.

They're just afraid to confront you about it.

Believe me, they're smelling it on your breath, your clothes, in your car, if you have one, and they've already noticed the yellow stains on your teeth.

Your young, still, and cigarettes are doing nothing for you but transferring your money to a bunch of fat, rich old men who don't need it.
I wish I could lecture you on smoking, but I can't and I know you won't listen. I don't think they'll tattle on you, but I kinda wish they would. Sorry, not being a jerk, just hate cigarettes.
yes it will if the dentist says that to yo parents then you can get him in a lot of trouble for not abiding by the patient doctor confidentialy.
They probably won't ask but they have every right to tell you parents and I hope they do. Why do you smoke when you know it will either kill you or make you wish you were dead. Do you see how hard it is for adults to quit smoking? They would give anything to have never started. There are absolutely no benefits from smoking and a million risks.
tell your mom that you don't need her in the room...plus its small and you don't want to look like a kid in front of people to keep her out, and then if the dentist even mentions anything about you smoking ask him/her to keep it between you. it's like patient/doctor confidentiality lol...i think. =D but you should try to quit. had to throw it in there...
What you want is, "Doctor Patient Confidentiality". Ask for it.
if your older than 6 your parent should wait in the waiting room for you while your teeth are being cleaned.

i don't think the dentist will ask if you smoke, even if they did ask they mostly likely would not tell your parent. it's not their job to be your guidance counselor. they are just there to do your teeth.

No, I think its illegal for him or her to tell. Doctor patient confidentiality, except its a dentist.
I checked the federal disclosure standards at http://www.hhs.gov/hipaafaq/, and for persons under 18, it defers to the state law.

I would discuss it with my dentist if I were you.
Dentists can definitely tell if you smoke. They should, however, honor your request for confidentiality. So you might get a look or a lecture from the dentist, but don't worry about it getting back to your parents. Plus, as someone already said, your parents probably know already.
first of all u shud never smoke, an if ur young n have total carin parents, they wood be like a yard away from where ur teeth are gonna be done or maybe watch the process to seee if the dentist dont kill ur teeth or if ur in pain or wat not, its not the doctors business to not tell ur parents, or to tell them a nyway, they just get the job done, and if ur under the age of smokin, of course ur dentist is gonna tell the parents, after all they are the ones payin to get ur teeth done
they shouldn,t if your worried, ask the dentist to keep it confidential
