Do you get braces on the first time you visit the dentist? or do you have to wait?

Question:
on the first day you go to the dentist, do they put your braces right away, or do they do it on your next appointment? On your first day going to the dentist, what do they do to your teeth? do they like x ray your teeth, then clean your teeth? Please help me, I'm scared and want to out what do they do? Thanks...

Answers:
First off, a dentist does not put braces on your teeth, an orthodontist will do that.

The first trip to the dentist, you teeth will be cleaned. You may get x-rays to look for problems that can not be seen by the naked eye. Then the dentist will look at your teeth and asses any other work that needs to be done. Don’t worry, it is painless. Even if you have to have some dental work done, with modern dentistry the procedures are painless. If you need your teeth moved for medical reasons, or cosmetic reasons the dentist will refer you to an orthodontist.

The first trip to an orthodontist you will have molds taken, an assessment done, maybe x-rays and a plan made up. You may get spacers put in during your first appointment, but it is not likely your teeth will be ready for braces yet. You will also get a list of costs for your full treatment, and what your insurance will and will not cover. You will be asked to make a payment before work will begin.
No, you don't get braces the first time you go to a dentist. They have to figure out whether you need them first, by doing x-rays and monitoring how your teeth are doing. Then they figure out when you need them on, which is usually a few months after they've decided you need them. Then you go to the orthodontist the few months later and get the braces on, and a wire put in. It is a pretty painless procedure; I should know, I got them on last year.

Once you have braces on, about every two months you need to go in for kind of "check-ups" to get the wire changed and, depending on how your teeth are doing, springs to seperate the teeth and stuff. I reccommend taking Tylenol or Advil right before check-ups to keep from getting headaches or mouthaches.

Good luck!
At my first appointment all the orthodontist did was check if I needed braces, explained the general information to my parents about what is wrong with my teeth and what needs to be fixed, then I got the molds. Since my orthodontist doesn't do x-rays in his lab he referred me to a place that does and after I got the x rays which was the next week I went back and he gave me spacers for a week (I still have them) and then tomorrow I'm getting the actual braces. So the whole process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks.
No they don't put braces on you right away! Usually the first day is a tour of the place, (places that you can brush you teeth at before your appointment, etc.), you will talk to the ortho., have your teeth examined to see if you need braces, have your teeth molded (impressions) for the doctor to have a better look at your teeth after you leave, x-rays, and then you will probably set up another appointment for the final results if you really need braces and if you need to do anything about overbites or under-bites (if you have it), and then how much it costs. Then you set up another appointment for the braces and/or overbite/under-bite stuff. Good Luck!! :)
Actually an orthodontist should be the one putting your braces on, not a regular dentist.
