#1 How often should my child change their rubber bands?
Orthodontic rubber bands break after they have been chewed a few times. Usually, the rubber bands snap when the child opens their mouth, with painful results. The only way to avoid the pain is for your child to change their rubber bands frequently. We recommend that orthodontic patients take off their rubber bands before each meal and put in new ones after they are done eating. It also is helpful for your child to change the rubber bands before the child goes to bed.
#2 What happens if my child leaves off their rubber bands?
The orthodontic treatment will take up to a year longer and be more painful.
#3 What happens if my child swallows a rubber band?
Orthodontic rubber bands are made of a medical grade latex rubber which is similar to the grade of rubber used in medical implants. The rubber is thought to be safe for human consumption. If your child swallows an orthodontic rubber band, the rubber band just passes through your child's digestive system and leaves in your child's feces.
Your child will get indigestion, and may have a bad allergic reaction if the child swallows a bag of rubber bands. Please make sure that your child does not eat a pag of rubber bands.

OOH AND FOR THIS SITE SCROLL DOWN TIL IT SAYS
"Helpful hints about wearing rubber bands"
do u like men?
They say no gum or candy so my friends tell me. But no one listens to that. Get them any color, you can change them all the time. And I hear they are pretty painful the first week or so because you have to get use to the tight feeling on your mouth, but not to worry, at least your teeth will be straight
my daughter has braces, now for a year. we chose the silver ones because they showed less dirt and things, the ortho said that the clear ones really showed everything. my daughter choses different colors for her bands each month. sometimes after each visit she is uncomfortable for a while but it's never hurt her very badly
best of luck to you
okay well color's all up to you i would stay away from the clear one's though because after awhile they turn yellow from eating and all that...rubber bands you have to take off while you eat..i'm sure your orthodontist will tell you all about it and give you a bunch of stuff for you to use for flossing and taking care of your teeth...the first couple of days your teeth will feel numb because the braces are moving your teeth and such but it'll be okay after a couple of days and then you should be fine...
i had the same feeling when i heard that i was going to get braces too! choose which ever color you want for the braces because you go back for adjustments every 3-5 weeks and you can change they colors when your there. Also, the rubber bands may not be enough for your overbite sometimes you have to have headgear too, it just depends how bad it is and you can not eat with the rubber bands in you mouth. i hope that i helped and if you need any more information you can google search braces 101 and click on any dental websites they can be alot of help.
i got black and orange for halloween one year -- BIG MISTAKE. My teeth looked all grody from the black and like they had loads of tartar from the orange. Stay away from both those colors!
get clear ones or silver braces arnt that bad just have to make sure you dont have food in between your brackets lol otherwise there great and it might hurt if you have to get them tightened and eat soft food for like the first week.
Dont get White(they make your teeth dull looking) Black(same reason) Yellow(They make your teeth look yellow) All the rest of the colors look fine.
You Cant eat with the bands on.
In school go to the bathroom after you eat to check if their is anything in your teeth.
You might get a lisp, so prepare for spit to fly out of ur mouth.
Good Luck!!
i got the same exact thing with the over bite and stuuf.
its only going to hurt about the first 2 weeks
and thats just from cuts and the soreness
butyou get wax to put on the metal
its not that bad,
after the first 2 weeks
youll be finee
well I went for the clear brackets. you can still get colored bands on them if you want. but I went with just clear bands most of the time. the clear ones look really good with majenta or another bright pink color. the metal ones look great with turqoise. but those are just my favs..
you can google bracket ties and they should come up on images to give you an idea of what colors are out there.
as for some advice:
no sticky foods ( no gum =[)
no hard foods
your ortho should give you a paper on what you can and cannot eat
I would recommend getting a proxy brush.(sold at walmart, target for about 4.00) they work wonders and can really help with getting under the wires. =]
also, I used superfloss, its made by either crest or colgate im not sure which one.
the cleaner your teeth, the easier and faster they are to move. and this is true!
try to brush your teeth after each meal. if you cant at least try to use your proxy brush after eating (they are so small you can fit them in your pocket)
you're going to probably need some kind of mouth gel like anbesol or orajel for some days. I would also recommend taking tylenol BEFORE going to the ortho...that way the pain is minimized
wax works for pokey wires
hope this helps. All else I can say is smile because you're teeth are going to look beautiful when its all over =]
Im soooo glad that you are happy to get them!! I HATE ppl who are like "oh i hate braces" cause I had to beg my parents to get them! I cried for years because I was soo depressed about my teeth. I really did enjoy them. YES they hurt but the pain is worth the beautiful smile that you get afterwords! I loved experimenting with the colors. Just do anything! Get orange and black for halloween (dont worry it's not childish). Braces are TOTALLY fun!!
get whatever color u like! u can change them anytime u go there. u can still eat with them on. just be careful with what u eat and brush ur teeth more than 2 times a day (after every meal be good).
YOU WILL BE FINE!
You can eat with rubberbands. You can eat normally. You will go about once a month. Take Tylenol instead of Motrin, its better for your teeth. They will only hurt for a while. Ask for a periodontal Toothbrush and LOTS of wax to put on your braces.
I have braces too. At first I was SO nervous but it's not really that bad. Right now I have a light pink color because it seems to blend in with my lips and gums. It's not that really bright pink. But this also depends on how old you are, if you are younger, you will be more drawn to the bright, vibrant colors, but if you are older like me, you may want to stay with colors that are less noticeable. Another good choice is getting Grey, it blends in great with the metal. Don't get white or clear because they will get stained by the food you eat, and it will look like you have food in your teeth. I also have rubberbands. I can't stress enough, ALWAYS wear them. Depending on your orthodontist, he or she may or may not have you eat with them. My orthodontist told me to have them on 24/7. Make sure you take Advil after you get them on, it may not hurt right after it's done, but it will be sore after. Good luck!!!!
ahh. i just got braces. they will probably not hurt when you get them on but they will hurt after a day or few:P eckk. [lol[ anyways. you choose your favorite colors:D i like teal and aqua together. but hey. your teeth you choose=] and for the rubberbands while your eating...take them out:] well good luck! and don't worry too much!
