What exactly does it mean when one gets their teeth capped and/or crowned?

Question:

Answers:
The tooth is ground down to a stub, a cap (fake tooth) is placed over it, sized and adjusted, then cemented on. Sometimes a root canal (removal of the dead nerve) is done first.
the old tooth is deadened and filed down and a false tooth (cap/crown) is cemented on to it.
HELLO,
THE PRUDENT THING TO DO IS A ROOT CANAL BEFORE DOING A CROWN.
WHY IS THIS?
IN THE EVEN THE TOOTH IS PAINFUL SOME TIME IN THE FUTURE THE ROOT CANAL IS ALREADY DONE.
THE TOOTH IS GROUND TO THE PROPER SHAPE AND AN IMPRESSION IS TAKEN AND THIS SENT TO A LAB. A TEMPORARY CROWN IS PLACED IN.
AFTER SOME TIME, THE PERMANENT CROWN IS CEMENTED IN PLACE.
THIS CROWN IS MADE TO LOOK JUST LIKE YOUR NATURAL TOOTH.
