I had extractions 12 days ago and I am still in a lot of pain, how can i make it go away?

Question:
My dentist told me that maybe I have developed a dry socket but just to continue drinking pain killers and it should go away.

Answers:
There is a medicine that the dentist can put in the socket that has clove in it that will help with the pain and help get rid of the dry socket. I honestly don't think it takes the pain away right away but it will help a lot.
get a second opinion - he sounds like a quack!
you may have an infection 12 days is a long time to be in pain!
good luck

salt water rinse. Make sure the salt has iodide in it though. Iodide helps clot and heal the wound.

Its the best.

Iodide fights infection also.
That happened to me, too, and it was awful. I went back to my dentist and she soaked some cotton in oil of cloves and dipped it into the holes and left it there for 1/2 hr.

I'm assuming you're talking about wisdom teeth? Mine were not that big. If it were me, and this is strictly what I would do, not what I'm telling you to do, I would find something with lidocaine or benzocaine in it--like canker sore swabs or oragel, and apply it right into the hole. Anything I can reach with a swab, I'd swab it. But that's just me.

I used ice pops--you know the kind that come in a long plastic strip and you freeze it to get a popsicle kinda thing. I chewed on those a lot. I put them in and just let them ice down my gums, and that helps with the pain.

Get better soon!

No way...if you have a dry socket you need to go back to the dentist for them to re-open the wound so it can re-heal!!
Actually, he should be seeing you. Most states have laws that dictate that a patient in pain should be seen w/in a certain amount of time after they call. There is also a paste he can apply to the area if you do have dry socket to help ease the pain. You need to insist that he sees you & does something. Put your foot down!
GO AND SEE THE DEENTIST. AFTER 12 DAYS THERE SHOUDN'T BE PAIN UNLESS IT'S DRY SOCKET.
A dry socket should be treated.

Go see your dentist to see.

They will initiate bleeding or put some dressing into it if indeed you have a dry socket. A dry socket is so painful 2-3 days after the extraction.

The good news: the pain may go away any instant.
