yes you will have an iv but don't worry about it it doesn't hurt and its just there to allow for pain meds and to keep you hydrated
you could be swollen for up to a week most likely less but don't worry about it just remeber its temporary and will be gone very soon soo don't let it get you down
ad stick too foods you don't need to chew for a couple of days like soup smoothies pasta and mashed potatoes scrambled eggs and such but you should be able to eat as normal within a few days
when you wake up from surgery do try eat if you take pain meds on an empty stomach it can make you feel ill

I am going in tomorrow to have an extraction myself. You may be swollen for a day or two if at all. You will be glad they are putting you under and you will wake up and it will all be over with. You will go right to sleep after they administer the anesthetic and wake up groggy. All needles hurt a little but this one will be small. Compared to the pain afterwards it will be nothing. If you eat and the drugs make you nauseous you will have a problem. Afterwards you won't be able to eat for several hours and then just something soft and room temperature.
Good luck
well if your getting it done under general anaesthesia than, swelling may last for two to three days ! you can eat non spicy not very hot food which is of softer consistency and light food ! do not drink with straw as it wont allow clotting and you may develop condition called dry socket ! take all the precautions and follow your dentists instructions and you will do well !
