Haven't been to dentist in years...advice?
Question:
Answers:
Just go. I went a couple of months ago and hadn't been in YEARS.
Dentistry has changed drastically and it was nowhere near as unpleasant as I remember it.
Go to the dentist. There could be something wrong and you might not even know until its too late.
The best advice would be coming from your dentist. If you don't arleady have one, ask friends for recommendations. Go to the one you prefer from that list. Once you've set up an appointment, tell that dentist your quirks about the whole seeing-a-dentist thing (because, obviously, you've got something against it that's why you haven't been to one in years---or if you were just too busy, tell her/him that as well.) He/she will give you options whether you want this or that done first. But if she strongly suggests you have something done before the other, as I have said, the best advice would be coming from your dentist. =)
Generally, the first visit will consist of cleaning, x-rays and an exam. The order in which they are performed depends on the availability of the station and/or personnel. Basically, you just show up and they will direct you to where you need to go. If the exam indicates cavities or some other reason for further work to be done, they will schedule a follow-up appointment for you. I hope that answered the question as I have never heard of scaling and root planning.
