I have a retainer but i was wondering i have heard the it can melt by hot water?
Question:

Normal cleaning with warm tap water and toothpaste, or a retainer cleaning solution should be sufficient to remove any build up that develops on a daily basis. "Never" put your retainer in "hot" water as it can either melt or in most cases, "distort" to where it would be necessary to have a new one made. They are rather expensive to have one remade. Hope I've been of some help.
Not everyone has their hot water heater set on the same temperature, don't take a chance. "No hot water" is one particular bit of information that I've always warned patients about. If you are in doubt just ask your orthodontist, I'm sure he will warn you of the possibilities of causing distortion by using hot water.
That's not true, i have a retainer and i soak it in hot water all the time and it has never melted. Plus, your orthodontist would've told u to not soak it in hot water if it would melt, so don't worry, u can soak it in hot water.
