I have a small sore in my mouth. It is white in color and is where my gum meets my cheek.?

Question:
I have had it for several days now and I'm really nervous. I'm afraid it's a weird infection or something. My dentist told me last year I have gingivitis, but I was wanting a 2nd opinion, because I had never been told I had prior to that. Now I'm worried it has something to do with that. I'm very health conscious and my husband doesn't seem too worried about, but I am. I've been swishing with hydrogen peroxide ("hydoxyl" colgate brand). what should I do?

Answers:
It's a canker sore, they are very common, just get some numbing agent and wait a few days and it should go away. Also BTW hydrogen peroxide does not kill bacteria, it draws out blood to draw out the infection on a cut or wound.
it might just be a canker sore or you could have bitten your cheek without knowing, like in your sleep ( i do that all the time). Gingivitis won't affect your cheeks. If it presisits you'll want to get it checked out. You dentist can do whats called a brush biopsy, they rub a brush in that area send it to a lab and within a few days you'll get results. It;s non invasive no cutting is involved. If something suspicious comes up you'll then have to go to an oral surgeon to get treated.
p.s. gingivitis isn't difficult to detect, if your gums bleed when you brush or floss you have gingivitis or if you probe reading ( the numbers they call out when measuring your gums) are 4 or above you have gingivitis or even periodontal disease you don't really need a 2nd opinion for that. You just need to brush better.
It is a canker sore. It will go away just be careful not to irritate it when you talk or eat.
canker sore, do not pick at it, it'll take forever to heal.
yours is just a particulary nastier variety, i had one on the insde of my bottom lip and i kept biting it, took forever to heal.

i'd leave it alone, but instead of that hydrogen perxoide your using which i think maybe a little too strong, i'd go for warm or hot salt water. that'll kill the bacteria around it since your mouth is full of it, and give it a chance to heal properly.

dont stress it, just leave it be.
Just a simple canker sore. No need to worry or fret, my dear! Goes away usually in a couple days, but sometimes longer.. like maybe a week, week and half... just all depends on your immune system and how badly your body wants it off of you :-). If it doesn't go away in a week, you should visit your doctor or dentist, just to be on the safe side :-)

You can swish with salt water to clean it. It may sting. Does it hurt? You didn't mention if it did or did not. But if it does, buy Ora-Jel tooth sensitizer, and just apply some to the sore. It will numb it up fast! Or just chew on some crushed iced chips. That will numb it temporarily. Or take advil or tylenol.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!
