It's been 24 hrs. Can I swish or spit after Tooth Extraction?!?

Question:
It has been more that 24 hours and I was wondering, Can I swish water in my mouth or spit? I was just wondering. my gims are still bleeding on the extraction site but it lightly bleeding

Answers:
They should have told you (or given written) post-op instructions.

You can begin to rinse gently with warm salt water... not too vigorously since you want to keep the clot in place. Just let the water 'run' out, for the same reason. Spitting isn't a good idea right now. You want the clot to stay were it is.

If the gums are slightly oozing, that's ok.

Things to avoid are smoking, drinking through a straw, carbonated beverages (soda, beer, etc..) and hard or spicy foods.

You can also gently brush the area (with a soft toothbrush)...

With all of this in mind, you should have a speedy recovery!

Good Luck!
I'm not sure... but I am having a tooth extracted soon, how much does it hurt??
The typical time frame is after the first 24 hours you "should" be rinsing (swishing to remove food particles) with warm salt water. This is to keep the site clean and aid in the healing process. You can brush and floss all of your teeth, just avoid the extraction site area. As always, follow any post op instructions given by you dentist or Oral Surgeon, they know what is best for your particular surgery.

I can't view your mouth so all I can advise is that if you are "bleeding" that is an indication that the clot did not form and you should return to the dentist or OS for an evaluation which usually requires that the area be packed off to promote healing. If this is just a slight tinge of blood that could be coming from the tissue, then this is normal and you should continue with the home care instructions that were given to you. Do not keep gauze on the area as this can also promote bleeding and can remove the clot.

I hope that I've been of some help and good luck with your healing!
Yeah, i think you can but, carefully. And i don't think its normal that after 24 hours you are still bleeding even if its lightly. Maybe its just your imagination. That happened to me too, and i wasn't really bleeding.
P.S. don't tough it or past your tough through there. I know its hard because you are not used to have a hole in there but you have to tried because then if, it is really bleeding its never going to stop.
