Scared of getting my impacted wisdom teeth removed?

I am getting two of my impacted wisdom teeth removed next week. I am getting put under IV sedation. Anyone else had impacted wisdom teeth removed? Can you share your experiences?

I want braces, but dont really need them?

Answers:
I had all 4 of mine out at once under IV sedation because they were all horribly impacted. I don't remember anything about the surgery, I just remember talking to the nurse lady, then I woke up at home on my couch. My jaw was swollen for close to a week and it was a good 5 days before I could open my mouth enough to bite larger things like a Subway sandwich. They gave me really good painkillers, though after a couple of days they made me feel nauseous so I didn't take them anymore, but it didn't hurt very bad. Also, they gave me this special ice pack holder that wraps around your head and holds two ice packs, one on either jaw. It looked stupid, but it really made my jaws feel a lot better. So if they don't give you one, you should ice them anyway. I hope it goes well!

Can anyone tell me how much a filling cost or where a can find out?

I remember counting backward from 100 to about 97. Next thing I knew, the denitst was waking me up. I didn't experience much discomfort afterward, other than the yucky-tasting clove-flavored gauze they stuffed in the wounds, and not being able to eat solid food for a couple of days. Don't fret. You'll probably be fine.

Do it your-self braces?

I had all four removed, two at a time, about fifteen years ago.

I had some swelling, it lasted a week or so each time, but it wasn't really all that bad. Unpleasant, but bearable--I didn't even use the Tylenol #3 they gave me.

I held out to find a dentist who would do it in his office because I have issues with general anaesthesia, and *no* issues with blood and drills, but YMMV. *g*

Don't worry. It'll be fine.

Is this an abcess or sign of cancer?

had mine removed two at a time without iv sedation. they gave "laughing gas" and local injections. much relief after. they do these all the time dont worry you will get relief and with iv sedation you probably will not even remember.

For anyone in the U.S. who has gone to Juarez, Mexico for dental work, would you recommend it?

I've had all four of them removed at the same time. They tried to get an IV in my arms but couldn't find a vein so they gave me nitrous oxide instead.

What shoul I do while pain in my teeth?

Yup, had all 4 of mine done at the same time. IV sedation is SUCH a wonderful thing! Go in, they start an IV, give you some meds, and you're in la-la land for a while. I woke up, was assisted to the car (i don't remember any of this), and slept the rest of the day. Just make sure you do the salt-water gargles and whatever the oral surgeon says or you'll get dry-socket. I did happen to get that x 4 (probably because I DIDN'T listen). Talk about wanting to die! That was many many many weeks of going in for packings and re-packings. Like I said, do what they say and you shouldn't have a bad experience!
Hope this helps!

Wiggling My Tooth?

I have had them removed and I work in an oral surgery office. It depends how hard it Willl be to remove the teeth-how close they are to the nerve and sinus-how easy the teeth come out. All and all it is an easy surgery with quick recovery. You wil not remember anything since you will have IV sedation. The next few days you will have some discomfort and possible swelling and bruising. With in no time you will be back in action!

What should i do?

I too remember counting backwards from 100 I think I got to 96 before I went out. I don't know what all they gave me but I do remember on the ride home laughing at the cows in the fields and finding them absolutely hilarious for no apparent reason. Must have been some good stuff. The pain after was very tolerable with pain meds and I was up and running around in a couple of days. good luck to you

Will whitening my teeth damage the enamel?

I had all four of mine out in the office. I was given a twilight drug. Didn`t put me out all the way, but didn`t feel a thing either.
The dentist was great and it took him about a 1/2 hr. He let me sleep for an hour before waking me up.
Gave me a rx for pain med and by the time we left his office and went to the drug store,
the pain was starting. I took a pill before I
left the drug store.
I didn`t remove the gauze for 3 days. I didn`t want to get dry sockets. I heard that they hurt bad. I drank warm water and warm gingerale the first day. The pain pills worked great and by the 4th day, I didn`t need them anymore. My mouth was swelled for another day before going down.
I ate the second day in the evening. Soft food like mashed potatoes, oatmeal and jello and smoothies were my diet for those
4 days. After that I started on more solid food, but only chewed with my front teeth.
I was afraid to get anything in the gums of where my wisdom teeth used to be.
It took another week to 10 days before I was not afraid to chew with my back molars.
Hope this helps.
Just don`t take out the gauze for atleast 2 days. Change it when its too bloody but keep it in.

Wisdom Teeth?

Yes I have had all 4 removed, all impacted.. : ( I had em done 2 at a time. I'm not going to lie to you, it does hurt. I don't know if they were impacted as much as mine were but every time they wanted to grow my face would become real swollen and I couldn't talk. The pain I was in was unbearable! I cried and cried when this happened and finally I had enough! .. I'm just so glad they were taken out. Just think about it this way... yes it's going to hurt, just take it easy and pretty soon after, you will never experience the same pain again... hope this helps : ) and take care..

Retainers give somebody the third degree?

When I was in my early twenties I had both my wisdom teeth taken out at the bottom of my mouth. I was terrified to be honest!! But I was sedated and frankly I went straight to sleep and had to be woken up. They give another sedative to knock you out until way after the operation is over with. They also numb your gums before extracting so pain is not felt at all during the procedure or indeed for a while afterwards. You will be given painkillers and antibiotics too for maybe a week afterwards. Basically, don't worry - mine was a very comfortable and positive experience and my gums had to be cut to remove the teeth because they were severely tilting onto my other teeth.
Please don't worry. You will need someone to take you home afterwards though and probably will just sleep for a while afterwards too.
But, on the other hand, if you need your wisdom teeth extraction is a simple manner of just local numbing and extraction, then that hurts a lot less and heals a lot quicker. Also straight growing wisdom teeth are apparently quite easy to remove if needed to be (that's what my dentist said last time I saw him - need the tops one done soon!!).

I wish you a speedy recovery xxx

Would braces do anything for me? ***PICS!***?

it is hit or miss.

it depends on how difficult it is to remove your teeth.

not having seen your xrays, it can cause some bleeding, infections, pain, and soreness.

or

it can be simple.

the fact that you are using iv sedation is good. There is a good chance you will not remember the whole experience.
