Do I still have to wear my retainer?

Question:
I got my braces off 2 years ago, and I've been wearing my retainer every night since then. I just went to the dentist a week ago, and he found like 2 cavities, and I had to get fillings.

Now, I am just wondering, do I really have to wear my retainer still? I brush my teeth and floss and do everything everyday, but I feel like after I brush and floss, when I put on my retainer, all of the white buildup on my retainer just makes my teeth bad all over again.

Answers:
some orthodontist say to just put it in for a little bit after two years just to check that you teeth dont move. i think that you can leave it off and just put it on and check if you teeth are still in the same place. if it is hard to put on wear it more often, if it slides like it should then you teeth haven't moved
oh the joy of retainers, i have one too and its loads of fun...not.
anyways make sure you get off all the junk after you eat. and yes i still recommend that you wear your retainer because i stopped weraing mine for a wile and they got all screwed up. so continue using them and the ortho. will probably allow you to remove them sooner than you think. : )
Well, if your orthodontist says you need to, then yes, keep wearing it

Do you brush your retainer with toothpaste, like you do your teeth, or soak it in mouth wash...thats what i do, it cleans it and makes it minty fresh

Just clean the retainer whenever you brush your teeth and that should eliminate the problem
