What materials make the best type of dental fillings?

Question:
When I get a tooth filled with the material that is supposed to look like tooth enamal, they always seem to fall out.

Answers:
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. And I find the best tooth filling material for fillings is what we call composite or resin type fillings. I'm a little confused about why yours seem to fall out as I do not have that experience with my patients at all. Done properly, these are bonded to the tooth and have almost a Zero tendency to fall out. In fact, I ask my patients to tell me where they are. Unless they have a huge filling, it almost impossible to tell. In the event a patient has a large part of a molar missing, I will sugest a gold onlay. This is a bit more complicated to do and requires an impression and a lab to make an exact fit. You may want to speak to your dentist and ask him why this happens to you because this is certainly not the norm. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie.
