For anyone who has had a root canal::?

Question:
about a year a go I had a root canal, just recently I started noticing a discoloration of the gum around where the crown is. I heard that crowns can cause discoloration of the gums...has anyone else heard this?
**At the moment I do not have the money to see my dentist...
for anyone who has had a root canal did this happen?? Or any thing similar?

Answers:
This has nothing to do with the root canal. You probably have a PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crown. It's very common for this to happen, because the gum tissues really don't like that metal and shrink away from it just a bit, revealing the bit of metal. It's nothing to be concerned about, but if you want it replaced, you'll need to get an all porcelain crown.
What kind of crown is it? If it is stainless steel, absolutely that can happen.

If it's white, then it's porcelain fused to metal. And there is stainless steel in it. Slight discoloration is normal. However, if you're uncomfortable with this still, call your dentist. He would probably take a look at it no charge since you paid to have it put in.
