Root Canal Question?

Question:
If I get the option, and i hope i do, to be put to sleep or just given numbing which should i choose? i'm 14, so i don't have to drive or anything.
i don't fear the pain after, just the pain during.

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. We do not ever put a patient to sleep for RCT because now it is almost totally painless. In fact, some deep fillings hurt more. The nitrous is an extra expense and most dental assistants that are female can not be in the room. Nitrous causes spontaneous abortions, so no females of child bearing age are allowed in the room when we use it. So we almost never do. With the way root canals are done now, it takes less than a hour and a lot of that is prep time and x-rays to check the tooth. In fact, put on your iPod or watch a video and forget it. You'll be on your way home before you even have time to get upset. If you have any other questions, please ask. I promise you will be fine. M
if they can put u out it might be better, there not real painful when ur numb but it seems like it takes forever, alot of pressure, hope this helps
I had root canaling a month ago , it was numbed ( it wasnt too much pain during just a little pressure) but got pain after it. so the dentist advised me to take one to two Advil before root canalling and I did and also took after three hours. it really worked .so dont forget to take pain killer before root canaling. one thing that in the beginning I had mild pain for one week ,then I went for filling so it also reduced pain and finally with cleaning my problem has really solved. so I think after root canaling, filling and cleaning is verrrrrry important otherwise u will have this problem.
