Botox as treatment for TMD?
Question:

When I was in college my jaw "locked up" also. I could not even stick a spoon in my mouth. I think I drank everything through a straw for about 2 weeks. They told me to take high doses of motrin every 6 to 8 hours to try to get the inflammation down. I think they even perscribed a muscle relaxer too. It did help a little, but it definately wasn't a quick fix. I don't think botox was popular then so it wasn't an option for me. I would call your dentist first and he should be current with the treatment options and steer you in the right direction. (on the up side, I lost 10 lbs when my jaw locked)
Good luck.
TMJ is a problem that occurs with the Temporomandibular Joint. It has nothing to do with the muscles in your face. Talk to a dentist. Look for a free clinic or a clinic for those who have limited monetary means. You could even try to call a dental clinic at your nearest University that has a Dental School Program. The Dentists in training work on people for a nominal fee.
