My 14 year old son has a terrible jaw cracking habit.?

Question:

Answers:
You should get him checked by your dentist he may have TMJ which can be painful. The dentist will have way to correct it
Tell him to stop, that can cause Arthritis when hes older and he will be in pain. It could also mean he has an undeveloped Jaw. You should see a doctor or dentist.
If he isn't doing it deliberately because he knows you hate it, it could be an unconscious habit. If the dentist/doctor says it is harmless (I don't know if it is or not), don't worry about it. If it is harmful, and he doesn't or can't voluntarily stop doing it, then it might be a sign of low blood sugar - believe it or not.

You may want to check out the symptoms link at www.hufa.org for other symptoms he may be having, that are also due to low blood sugar, which can be related to his time of life and the change in his hormone levels.
is this by habit or does it just happen? Everytime i eat my jaw makes a noise and i can make my jaw pop when ever i want. It is a slight un alignment and there is nothing they can do for it unless it becomes significant. I have not had any problems with it so far...
I too have had this problem since I was a kid. Yes, it sounds like TMJ. I was treated with a mouth piece by my dentist. It really helped. However, the key triggers for me was chewing gum, ice, anything that I had to really chew a lot. You may want to see if things like that make it worse.
Does he have headaches, neck pain? If so..a simple trip to the dentist will confirm this.

Good Luck!
