Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and all the answers about a denture cleaner are good, but it this is caked on, may not help. Try this before you call your dentist.
But denture tablets that fizz and soak retainer for 30 minutes. Brush. If the hardened plaque will not come off, call your dentist. His hygentist will use a ultra sonic machine to get this off after she scales it with a untrasonic scaler. Once they do this, the retainer should be sparkling clean.
Now, in the future, do this. Once a day, take the retainer, soak in warm water and then brush with a soft tooth brush with tooth paste. Rinse. THEN once or twice a week soak for 30-60 minutes in a glass with denture cleaner. You can also by denture toothpaste. But be gentle. This should do it. I have seen retainers will all sorts of stuff hardened on them and once your dentist cleans if all off, keep up a routine so this doesn't happen again. If you need any other help, please ask. Marie
just got back from wisdom teeth pulled?
lol
get a new one
fill your sink with warm water and mix in 2 tbsp. of baking soda and let them soak for a few hours, maybe overnight. then brush them in the morning. do this a few times, and it will come off
It sounds weird, but I've had my retainers for 4-5 years and those denture cleaner tables work really well on them.
Im getting a rootcanel should i be scared?
denture cleaner.like the stuff you put in a glass of water. Let it sit in it over night. That is how I cleaned mine.
Hiya, I have retainers, and I have a white bit on mine that won't come off as well.
I don't know if it is the same for you, but I rang my orthodontist and he told me to make an appointment, so I did, and I showed him the white stuff ( After weeks of scraping it, brushing it, leaving it to soak ) He then told me it wasn't hardened plaque, he said it was where I had grinded my teeth at night, and worn away slightly at the retainer.
I don't know if any of the other suggestions above mine work, as I've never tried them, but I suggest you phone your orthodontist first and see what he says, then take it from there. Also, if you have the same problem as I did, you retainers can actually chip and break if it was worn down slightly like mine was, and you will have to pay around £150 for new retainers !!
Good Luck
