I just got my braces off and my gums are swollen?

Once your braces are removed the gums will tend to get less swollen pretty quickly. You should brush your teeth thoroughly and gently and begin flossing again if you haven't been. Although your gums may bleed when you floss keep doing it as the bleeding should go away within a week. Salt water rinses (1 teaspoon to an 8 ounce glass of water) can be used to help reduce the inflammation and you can also gently massage the gums with your (clean) fingertip in a circular motion. This will increase the blood flow to the area which will help reduce inflammatory cells. If you haven't had a dental cleaning recently you should have one to remove any plaque, tartar or leftover orthodontic cement that could be irritating your tissues. Hope that helps and wear those retainers.

I would try gargling with warm salt water. your gums are swollen due to all the pressure they used to pop off your braces. I was so relieved when they took mine off. Food tasted so much better.and take some advil if you are in any pain. You should also make an appointment with your regular dentist to get your teeth cleanned .
