How long do i have to wear retainers?

Question:
I'm scared, after hearing someone say you have to wear your retainers for your entire life. Is that true?

I only have braces on my top jaw not the bottom and there coming off only after 11 months of having them. I kno everyone is different depending on the person but why is everyone sayng you have to wear them forever? doesnt it depend on the persons teeth not everyone has the same orthodontic problem.

Thanks

Answers:
No you usually don't have to wear them forever. Your dentist/orthodontist can tell you how long you'll have to wear it. I had braces for 2 years and a retainer for six.
You're supposed to wear your retainer every day all day the first month after having no braces. After that you're supposed to wear it to bed every night. All orthodontist are different, some reccomend you wear it every night the rest of your life, some say wear it every once in awhile to bed. Honestly, as long as the thing still fits, you're fine.
Don't obsess over the retainer. You're listening to the wrong friends.they don't know anything. Your last statement is correct. I don't know how much tooth movement you've had but there's even the possibility of NO retainer...how's that? You may just have a flipper partial to fill in the space while the implant is healing and that will be your retainer.
Good luck with your implant and crown.
