Wisdom tooth pulled, piece still there?

I got my wisdom tooth pulled on Monday, and now that I am looking at it, it looks like part of the tooth is still there. I have had two other teeth pulled before and knew it did not hurt nearly as much as this does, and was wondering how possible it would be to still have a chunk of tooth left? I know I heard the cracking of the tooth as he pulled, but he only pulled out one piece. This is the same dentist who pulled my other two teeth and I figured he knew what he was doing, but now I am starting to wonder. If he did leave part of a tooth in, what would he need to do? I am scared to go back, it was a traumatic enough experience as it is. Do you think they could put me out this time to remove the remaining tooth? It does not look like an exposed bone or anything, it looks just like a tooth.

How bad is it to smoke if you had wisdom teeth pulled out?

From how you describe the pain, it sounds like you had a lower wisdom tooth extracted...these tend to hurt more than upper teeth and right now would probably be the peak time for swelling. What you are seeing back there in the socket could be a special gauze dressing that's used to act as insulation while your tissue grows over the bone at the bottom of the socket. It's there for your comfort. Most likely you have a scheduled post-op appointment either this Friday or Monday. If your dentist did place that dressing, it will be removed then. It feels kinda weird! Looks like a noodle!
If your pain increases over the next couple of days, you may have a dry socket. Call your dentist, they can change the dressing, it contains a soothing ointment. Please do not be scared to go back, if you don't return for your check up (TOTALLY easy) that dressing will stay in your socket...could cause infection, or at the least very bad breath!!

My girlfrined does not brush her teeth for weeks. How can I approach her with my observation?

Go to your oral surgeon and have him take a look at it if it still bothers you in a couple days. Teeth aren't easy to pull and some take more effort than others to get out. It is a possibility that your wisdoms didnt come out smooth the second time around, which may be resulting in more pain. As for there being a chunk of your tooth still there, i dont see why there would be because after the oral surgeon takes out the tooth, the assistant uses a high speed suction to clear out any blood or debris thats left over. When your wisdom is grown out, the oral surgeon takes it out whole. Its when its impacted is when they would have to cut into the bone and cut the tooth into pieces to take out. Also...it is normal to have blood where the tooth has been extracted. it takes an average of 6 months to fully heal. hope this helps

Ok..what the heck just happened? :/?

Hi, what you might be seeing is a bit of exposed bone this happens alot and usually heals by itself. If the dentist has left a bit of tooth in he should have told you as sometimes if its just a small peice if they cant get it out they will leave it in rather than doing a surgical on you. It depends where you live etc and the rules but usually you wont get put to sleep if you have had the tooth out already the waiting list is horrendous.
Also it is still normal for it to look bloody as this is the blood clot that helps the socket heal. If you are still worried see your dentist.

What is dipping does it hold anything to do w/ smoking?

Always, always, always get your wisdom teeth removed by an oral & maxillofacial surgeon. Why risk having them removed by a general dentist? Just because it is cheaper?
The white thing is likely fibrin, so don't worry too much. Have you tried soaking your mouth in hot salty mouth soaks. Go to www.oceansurgical.com.au and look up instructions following oral surgery to help
