What to expect after a gum graft?

Question:
I'm getting a gum graft of one of my molars this week. How much will it hurt? How long will I be out for? When can I start drinking beer and eating solid food again? Thanks.

Answers:
hi, your specialist is probably removing the tissue from the roof of your mouth. after that's done your bone is exposed so yes it will be painful. breathing in air will not be fun so drinking beer probably not a good idea until your palate(roof of your mouth) heals. ask for pain pills. good news is the graft will probably feel better then your palate. down time is not an issue you can probably go to work the next day, depending on your pain pills and your line of work that is. your having a gum graft done which tells me you care about your teeth. so take care of your surgery sites the way your specialist tells you to and you'll be fine. no dramas, no stress. good luck
