Tooth filling!?

Aww don't be scared, it's soooo easy. The dentist will first numb you up with a local anesthetic, if you're afraid of the needle ask them about applying a topical numbing gel to your gum before injecting you. Then the dentist will drill down into your tooth to clean it of the damage and clear the decaying part of your tooth. If they are using an amalgram filling they will next rough up the area of the tooth then apply one layer of the filling, dry it with a special light, and apply another coat (they'll repeat that until they have enough filling in your tooth). If they are using a composite filling which many dentists do now, they'll skip the roughing part, and just apply the filling in ONE single layer, and you'll be finished. You'll probably still be numb when you leave the dentists office and for a little bit after as well. When the numbness wheres off you may be a little sore, but nothing too horrible. Hope this helps. Good Luck, don't be scared, you'll be perfectly fine! :-)
Don't be scared =). First, the dentist will put topical anesthetic on your gums to help with the regular anesthetic. Then he/she will give you the anesthetic & make your tooth "go to sleep". After that it's a piece of cake. Even the anesthetic isn't that bad. Sometimes they will put what they call a rubber dam or rain coat on your tooth just to help keep it dry. Then the dentist will take out the decay & put the filling in. It's really easy..please don't be afraid....it's ok to let the dentist know you are nervous too....that way they can help you be at ease. Sometimes it's helpful to take your favorite cd & cd player just in case they don't have one. It helps to keep your mind off things & helps to pass the time. Good luck =)
