I had all four out at the same time. They gave me no trouble at all. For the first day or so, I had chocolate malts. Yummm!
after surgery ~ you won't be able to eat solid foods ~ only drink milk shakes, liquids, etc.
Take the pain medication ONLY with food (liquids) in your stomach first (or you will throw-up)
Rinse your mouth every hour with salt-water - it will help it heal and you won't get dry socket.
Use ice packs on your jaw or cheek bone for the first 24 hours after your surgery. It will minimize the swelling.
Rest.
The dentist won't do anythign wrong. As long as you trusted him before ~ I think you can trust him now.
Will you be under anesthesia? or just novacaine and laughing gas? If anesthesia ~ be sure he is licensed and monitoring your vitals during the procedure.
I had all four of mine out at once too. Not a big deal. I waited a few years too long, dreading the day because X-rays showed I had "swept back" roots as well. Finally I went in when I couldn't take the discomfort any more. Afterwards, I wondered why I waited so long. Two days after they had been removed, I nearly forgot about it.
I had all four of mine pulled last fall... the dr gave me some pain pills which helped. But keep ice on it 30minutes on one side then 30 on the other to keep the swelling under control. As for eating ... soft foods like applesauce , jello stuff like that, hope this helps.
When I was in my early twenties I had both my wisdom teeth taken out at the bottom of my mouth. I was terrified to be honest!! But I was sedated and frankly I went straight to sleep and had to be woken up. They give another sedative to knock you out until way after the operation is over with. They also numb your gums before extracting so pain is not felt at all during the procedure or indeed for a while afterwards. You will be given painkillers and antibiotics too for maybe a week afterwards. Basically, don't worry - mine was a very comfortable and positive experience and my gums had to be cut to remove the teeth because they were severely tilting onto my other teeth.
Please don't worry. You will need someone to take you home afterwards though and probably will just sleep for a while afterwards too.
But, on the other hand, if you need your wisdom teeth extraction is a simple manner of just local numbing and extraction, then that hurts a lot less and heals a lot quicker. Also straight growing wisdom teeth are apparently quite easy to remove if needed to be (that's what my dentist said last time I saw him - need the tops one done soon!!).
Don't eat or drink hot things, use a straw to drink but not too much sucking!! Rinse with salt water and religiously take the painkillers and antibiotics that your dentist prescribes. Your dentist won't do anything wrong as he/she is most probably pulled more teeth than you've had hot dinners! If your nightmare vision comes true the worst that will happen is that you get taken to the hospital where the oral surgery department rectifies the situation - but this WON'T happen and lets me honest you will numb all the way through it (or asleep), so please don't worry.
I wish you a speedy recovery xxxx
