Canker sore in mouth..what causes them?
Question:
Answers:
A canker sore is a type of mouth ulcer caused by a break in the mucous membrane. Some things that cause canker sores are: stress, fatigue, illness, hormonal changes, menstruation, sudden weight loss, food allergies, and mouth trauma [toothbrush abrasions, lacerations, accidental biting, and braces]. Artificial sugars and acids can also cause canker sores.
Canker sores usually heal without treatment within 1 to 2 weeks. You should maintain good oral hygiene and avoid spicy, acidic, and salty foods and drinks. Strong mouthwash may also cause irritation.
Here are some home remedies:
-Gargle and rinse the mouth with warm water and baking soda.
-Rinse the mouth with salt water— 1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 cup (250 ml) of warm water (aka a saline solution).
-Rinse regularly with ginger, lemon, and honey tea. All 3 ingredients have strong anti-bacterial properties.
-Rinse the mouth with a hydrogen peroxide antiseptic mouthwash.
-Gargle a mouthful of warm vinegar with a half-tablespoon of salt for about 30 seconds, 3 times per day; this may be extremely painful.
-Pour whiskey onto a Q-tip and hold directly onto canker sore until initial burning subsides. Helps with numbing the sore and its inflamed areas.
-Swab the ulcers with Milk of Magnesia.
-Make a paste of crushed Tums (antacid) and water—apply directly to the ulcers.
-Dab the ulcer with Vanilla extract.
Best of luck to you. I know they can be extremely painful.
I had one of those once. i was told it was from putting dirty things in your mouth like chewing on your pencil, biting your nails etc. just put some alum on it for about 2 nights it will go right away!
cancer sores are caused by a type of herpes. you can get them from eating certain foods, like extremely acidy food -- fruit, ketchup, etc. and if you have acid reflux like i do, you get them a lot more often. try gargling with hydrogen peroxide, thats what i do. it will prevent you from getting them, and will eventually help that one go away. in the mean time, just continue using numbing stuff on it.. no way to make them go away but letting them heal, which sucks cuz they can be extremely painful
I get these all the time, especially after the dentist and if I change toothpaste, after eating acid foods like tomatoes and if I am ill. What works best for me is rinsing my mouth with an antacid. Any over the counter brand works well.

hope you find this helpful and the sore goes away!
God bless!
The site from petlvr about sums it up. Another suggestion on how to get rid of them is peroxyl. It is a hydrogen peroxide rinse you can get at the drug store. It works great for me.
I get them every other week or so and I think it's because I eat too much junk food (not sure if it correlates), but yeah it could be due to stress and lack of sleep. If you have cuts in your mouth, it can create one too. I just let mine heal, but you can put salt over the canker sore to make it heal faster, but it'll sting a bit. I heard if you have more vitamin C, it'll prevent it.
