Hey there!

It's ok, everyone experience a little pre-braces apprehension!
I had them, and since I have sensitive teath it hurt horribly for the first 3-4 days or so.
If your teeth arent sensitive, they should adjust well to the braces and should not hurt much!
I would pick any color other than: Orange, Yellow, White, Dark Gree, or Light Purple! They fade and look so ugly like food stuck on or between your teeth and its gross!
Brush your teeth often and check in the bathroom mirror at your school if food is in your teeth.
Good Luck!
I have braces so i know what they do. They spread out your lips with these plastic things and cement or glue them to your teeth. It kinda sorta hurts. but do not get yellow, blsck, or green, anything else would be fine. it will hurt at first and a litttle when you get them tightend but only for s bit. If they do hurt take tylenol or somethinig and make sure to ask them for wax. That helps a lot. Hope i helped you enough.
I am 24 and I have had braces for almost two years. I may have them removed this Monday...but, we'll have to see what the ortho thinks. Did they put spacers in your teeth?? That was the most painful part of all for me!! The actual braces were a little painful at first, but my Dr. recommended takin Motrin. That really helped with the pain almost instantly. When you have braces you must go for monthly adjustments. You teeth may be sore for a day or two after. Not much to worry about. Believe the pain is worth it!!

I chose the ceramic braces. They are the same color as your teeth and barely noticible. Most people didn't even realize I was wearing them.
Yes they do hurt when they put braces on, but getting them adjusted will hurt even worse. So brace yourself.

They start by spreading your mouth apart with plastic (kind of like what happens when you had/have a mold made of your teeth) and cement or glue it to the sides. Then by putting on the little square shaped metal brackets then feed the metal wire through each... your mouth will be sore at which point and waiting for them to finish feeding the metal wire part will be somewhat annoying because you will be in pain and not feel like having anything more done to you. Not to scare you, but that's being honest.

You can get just about ANY color under the sun from just all one color (i.e. red or blue) to a favorite color, to the entire spectrum of colors (rainbow). I always choose rainbow because I could never make up my mind. For some people, depends really on your needs, they give you a baggie of really small elastics (mine did for me) called spacers. These do not hurt when they put them in but afterwards if you've had them in a time at all they do hurt. They are used to connect one tooth to another and will eventually straighten a whole set (bottom or top). You might have to have this done for both sets (top and bottom) simultaneously, so be prepared for some major pain there.

While you have braces it is important to brush your teeth frequently even more so than if you didn't have them because your teeth can rot out from behind your braces, much like they can if you don't have braces at all and get cavities, but far worse because food and germs get lodged in the wiring and brackets.

Depending on your needs you might have to have teeth pulled to make room for the adjustments to your remaining teeth. Be prepared!

Avoid eating foods that generally get stuck in your teeth if you are a person (and I don't wanna be gross here) who does not have a habit of brushing his/her teeth regularly or as frequently as you should. That will prevent cavities and such as I described earlier and your teeth from rotting behind the braces.

Avoid eating corn-on-the-cob until preferably either you can handle the pain with no problem or until you don't have braces anymore, whichever comes first.

For the first few weeks or months (however long it takes your body and your mouth to get used to them) you might have excessive saliva in your mouth due to the fact that your brain thinks your new braces are food. Nothing to worry about and will subside somewhat once you get used to having the braces.

You might also want to stick to SOFT foods and cold liquids for the first few weeks or months too because you will be in too much pain to chew hard food. I found it particularly hard to chew steak and similar food with braces. took longer.

You CAN still eat corn-on-the-cob but you have to peel off the corn from the cob with a knife to be able to.

Cold drinks or for some people even hot drinks will help ease the pain that comes with having braces on and having them adjusted.
It doesn't hurt when they're being put on, though you may want to put some lip balm on before you go, because they have to stretch your lips a lot when they put on the braces. The main thing is it takes a long time for them to glue all the brackets, so it gets pretty boring. After an hour or two, the braces will start to move your teeth, and this is where it starts hurting. The severity of the pain depends on how crooked your teeth are. It will keep hurting for a few days, so just take a motrin or something, and eat soft foods.

Just pick any colour you feel like! I would avoid white though, because it can make your teeth look yellow.
Good Luck! ;)
if they hurt at all, just take some advil or tylenol and you should be fine. as for color, i like black (and other dark colors) because it makes your teeth look whiter.
im gettin them for the third time august 14. i had them first at 9 got them off @ 12 but than got them again @ 14 but got them off @ 15. im 19 now.
ok well ive had braces for like 3 yrs. and i am getting them off on the 30th of this month...it doesnt hurt getting them on @ all but when you have them on they do hurt a bit...take tylonal...and dont sleep on your tummy because you will wake up with braces indented in your inner lip!...and that hurts a lot! oh and pick ur ABSOLUTE FAVE COLOR FOR YOUR FIRST COLOR! it like a good memory...
