I had a root canal 4 days ago, and I'm still in severe pain. Is that normal? How long should the pain last?

Question:
The pain is so bad on that side of my mouth, I can't even eat.

Answers:
Four days after root canal treatment and you're in still in severe pain? Not good. Call the dentist and get an appointment asap... Your anitibiotics may need to be changed to something stronger and/or the tooth may need to be drained..

Good Luck!

:)
thats normal, keep taking your pain killers
cynbyn; please call your dentist,he knows your case, and
dont delay.
I'd consider pain so severe you can't eat after four days to be abnormal. It's worth a phone call to your dentist, even on a Saturday. If the pain is severe, you at least need different pain meds.
I have had root canals before. The actual pain was in my jaw from where they had my mouth pried open for a period of time. Try Motrin, it really seemed to help me. Hope you feel better
If you had severe infection and inflammation before the root canal, some pain after is to be expected. However, if it is severe, it is worth a call to the endodontist--s/he may need to ensure that all of the pulp tissue was removed and that no infection persists.
The pain should begin to diminish after a couple days. Then everyday the pain would be less and less until you don't notice it. After 4 days it is still normal not to want to chew your food on the sensitive side of your mouth, but if you can't eat at all, and if the pain is still as intense as ever, then please contact your dentist.
